AMDISA UNION CATALOGUE OF SERIALS

Union Catalogue of Serials is an indispensable tool for resource sharing in a networking environment. Today, when the telecommunicaitons facilities are being expanded to support E-mail and on-line access to external databases, we need only the necessary means to know who is having what for collective utilizaiton of our bibliographic resources. The union catalogue serves this very purpose by its invaluable referencing system.

While its philosphy is the much talked about `Universal Access to Information', the objectives of a union catalogue are to provide information support for running various programmes of library cooperation, such a reciprocal borrowing and photocopy exchange, planned acquisition of serials, exchange of stray issues in order to fill up gaps in the back-runs of serials of a library.

The AMDISA Union Catalogue of Serials (AUCS) is a special union catalogue as it is restricted to some defined areas of subject interest, namely management and its related disciplines, and designed to serve a sectoral network. It is different from many others being trans-national in scope. AUCS provides information in regard to the whereabouts of quite a few national serials committed to some common problems of the developing nations.
